HyMu 80 Alloy by Vulcan Metal Group

HyMu 80 is a high-performance, magnetic shielding alloy and unoriented metal with excellent mechanical strength, resistant to both atmospheric and moisture corrosion and particularly resistant to oxidation.

HyMu 80 Properties and Appearance

HyMu 80 (alloy 79) is an alloy comprised of 80% nickel-iron-molybdenum. It is a dark metal with high luster and can often have a gold or brass tint to it. HyMu80 can withstand high temperatures due to its high initial permeability with minimum hysteresis loss. (wastage due to heat in a magnetic environment). HuMy80 is popular when being used for shielding electrical components from magnetic fields as it is an unorientated metal so will reverse polarity to avoid any magnetic attraction to other metals.

HyMu 80 Applications

The main characteristic of HyMu80 is high permeability, which is used for shielding against static or low frequency magnetic fields. HyMu 80 is used in technology applications such as home theater systems or recording devices due to its high magnetic strength which helps to produce high quality sound whilst protecting electrical components from stray magnetic fields. This also benefits the medical industry as the high magnetic strength will protect sensitive medical equipment from stray magnetic fields and corrosion.

HyMu 80 is commonly used  in:

  • Transformer cores

  • Recording devices

  • Home Theaters

  • Telephones

  • Tape wound toroids and laminations

  • Phones

  • Protecting sensitive medical equipment, particularly in MRI facilities

  • Protecting electrical components from stray magnetic fields
