What is Kovar® Alloy Supply?

Kovar® is a nickel-cobalt alloy, with just under 30% nickel. Kovar® has an expansion profile like borosilicate (Pyrex) glass as well as alumina ceramics, making it one of the most popular controlled expansion alloys. It also has excellent machining properties and is not porous.

Kovar® Properties and Appearance

Kovar® is a light gray, controlled expansion metal with a dull or lustrous finish. The expansion profile of Kovar® makes it ideal for metal-to-glass or metal-to-ceramic seals. Kovar® is highly sought after for hermetic seals or “clean room” builds.


Kovar® Applications

Kovar® is also used in the medical, scientific, and research communities as well as in transformers, conductors, and transducers. Examples of Kovar® applications are:
