What is Heavy Metal Tungsten Alloy (ASTM B 777)?

Properties and Appearance

Tungsten is a rare element with the symbol W (for Wolfram) and atomic number 74. Workable once purified, Tungsten is a lustrous soft gray color. It belongs to the refractory metals and is a heavy, dense metal.

High-density applications and those needing heavy radiation shielding use Heavy Metal Tungsten alloys. Tungsten has excellent ductility and machinability when alloyed with nickel and copper or nickel and iron.

High-temperature environments where corrosion resistance and strength is a must benefit from using Heavy Metal Tungsten Alloy. Aircraft and aerospace, radiation shielding for scientific and medical projects, and the oil and gas industry all use Tungsten.
