What is Alumel®?
Alumel® is a nickel alloy.
Properties and Appearance
Alumel® is a nickel, aluminum, manganese, and silicon alloy and is a somewhat dull gray metal. It belongs to the thermocouple alloy group.
Alumel® is magnetic and has good electrical resistivity and thermal conductivity, making it ideal for use in thermocouples and as thermocouple extension wire. When combined with Chromel®, Alumel® is the negative leg of a Type K thermocouple.
With its magnetic properties, electrical resistivity, and thermal conductivity, Alumel® is valuable to the aerospace, medical, and nuclear industries, among many others.
