What is Alloy 42?
Alloy 42 is a nickel alloy.
Properties and Appearance
This iron-nickel alloy is 42% nickel and 58% iron. It is a silvery-white lustrous metal and belongs to the controlled expansion and low expansion alloy groups.
Alloy 42 exhibits low, constant thermal expansion in temperatures up to 570° F (300° C). With an ultimate tensile strength of 500, minimum yield strength of 300, and 30% elongation, it makes an excellent match with silicon and ceramic materials (alumina, beryllia, and vitreous glass compounds).
Use Alloy 42 for metal-to-glass or metal-to-ceramic seals, electronic and microelectronic components, and lead frames.
